Friesland College and housing corporation Accolade have opened the work experience company Toolz in association with Heerenveen-based contracting company Siebenga en Hoekstra. This allows apprentices to follow a two-year programme in which they spend three days a week with a professional from one of the participating companies and two days in the classroom.
Toolz was initiated by Accolade. About thirty per cent of the housing corporation's employees are aged 55 or above. The purpose of training young people at the company is to avoid a situation where there is a lack of skilled workers in the future.
The work experience company was opened this academic year with five apprentices. The plan is for that number to increase to 25.
