Sensor technology
The Northern Netherlands sees opportunities for artificial senses
Sensors are in fact artificial senses. They feel what is happening in all types of environments: from the bloodstream to an orbit around the earth and everywhere in between. Sensors linked to computers, provide information for the management and monitoring of all types of processes and systems. There are countless fields to consider: health, transport and logistics, water management, meteorology, precision agriculture and many more.
Region becomes global player
The small region of the Northern Netherlands can become a major player in the field of sensor technology. The basis is formed with LOFAR, the radio telescope based on sensor technology, a project which enjoys international recognition.
There is high degree of knowledge, but the sector is still very small. It is important to strengthen the basis and develop commercial applications. Sensor Universe has been created to put the sector on the international map.
The NOM has a sense for sensor technology
Cooperation between government, research institutes and industry is essential for success in sensor technology. The NOM aims to build bridges between these parties. Knowledge is still concentrated among a small number of organizations. The NOM aims to broaden this knowledge base and involve interested entrepreneurs in sensor technology. Finally the NOM recruits new businesses to boost the sector.
