Sensor technology
The North senses opportunities for artificial senses
The North senses opportunities for artificial senses Sensors are in fact artificial senses. They 'feel' what is going on in all sorts of environments: from the bloodstream to a stream around the earth and everything in between. Linked to computers, sensors supply information for the control and monitoring of all sorts of systems and processes. There are countless conceivable applications: healthcare, transport & logistics, water management, meteorology, precision farming and many, many more. Region becomes world player The small Northern Netherlands could become a big player in the field of sensor technology. The foundation has been laid with LOFAR, the radio telescope based on sensor technology. The project is internationally prestigious. There is plenty of top quality knowledge, but the sector is still tiny. There is a need to strengthen the foundation and to develop commercial applications. Sensor Universe has been brought into being to place the sector on the international map. The NOM has got a feeling for it Partnership between public authorities, knowledge institutes and the business sector is vital to the success of sensor technology. The NOM builds a bridge between those parties. The knowledge is currently concentrated among a small number of organisations. The NOM wants to expand the knowledge base and involve interested entrepreneurs in sensor technology. Finally, the NOM is recruiting new companies to strengthen the sector. More information?
